George Stroumboulopoulos

Welcome to your new, simplified home page.

dear facebook, you’re not all that!!

except that you are… but please, could you stop being such an prick about it? you’re constantly changing, and while improvement is a good thing, please consider that your users don’t want to constantly be re-learning how to navigate your site. you want to be the latest platform, do you not? well you don’t see drastically new OSs coming out every few months – it just doesn’t fly.

and let’s talk privacy settings for a minute. sure, you’re one of the “social media” leaders – but one of the things that people appreciated about you was the level of control that they had over their privacy settings. why did you throw that out the window?? sure you gave us all a little warning the first time we logged in after these changes, but you were less than forthcoming about what specifically we could change.

take, for instance, the ability to choose which of our actions got syndicated to all of our friends’ newsfeeds – you essentially just took that away! and you didn’t even tell us! we kept on believing that our previous settings were still in place, but nooooooope! seriously, wtf facebook. i now choose to either have everything or nothing go out. and yeah, sure, i can go to my profile page and delete my actions, and presumably (or not?) that will stop them from going over the wire – but it’s not like they’re available immediately, though i would expect my friends DO immediately know what i’ve “liked”.

Welcome to your new, simplified home page.just now i logged in and saw that there is yet another, “simplified home page”. mmmhhhmmm. my initial reaction is “what have they changed, and are of course trying to hide now” cuz we’ve all figured out that you only make esthetic changes when you want to hide something.

did you know that the hipsters are leaving facebook? that’s it’s becoming a trend? if i didn’t have friends in other countries that i fear i would lose track of, i would leave also. i hate it. i’m not alone. smarten up, please. you’ve got gold here – don’t mess it up.
